SUMMARY:Webinar: How Can We Support Travelers With Disabilities in Affinity Travel Programs
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will be led by Justin Harford\, Program Coordinator with the National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange\, which works to increase the participation of people with disabilities in international exchange by providing information and resources to both individuals with disabilities and higher education professionals. \nThe objective of this workshop is to begin a discussion around ways that affinity travel providers can more effectively support participants with disabilities. Justin will begin with a discussion of the term “disability” as well as some philosophical considerations around accessibility in developing countries and disability disclosure. The presentation will close with time for questions from the audience. The presentation will be recorded\, but Q&A will not be recorded. SUMMARY:Developing Inclusive Language Practices
DESCRIPTION:The language we use conveys our interpretation of the world. Are your words having the impact you intend—or are they sending the wrong message? Lay a foundation for your own language practice\, guided by the core philosophy that creating inclusive linguistic landscapes is in sync with the purpose of responsible educational travel. We’ll discuss ways to identify unconscious bias in your travel writing and remove exclusionary influences from your travel vocabulary; rethink some commonly used travel terms and tropes; and practice alternatives that use an inclusive lens. \nSarah Juckniess\, Senior Director\, Marketing and Communications\, Cal Alumni Association presented on this topic at the recent ETC Conference and we’ve invited her to lead this discussion in an encore online presentation so that more people may participate.  Please feel free to invite your colleagues in your marketing/writing departments who might be interested in joining. \nRegistration Link Coming Soon!
